For Muslims all over the world today marks the end of the 4th day of Ramadan, the month that we all abstain from food an drink during the daylight hours. For those of us living in the Northern Hemisphere it is anywhere from 14 to 18 hours.

When you think about it, that seems harsh. In the summer heat with temperatures soaring upwards of 40 Celsius, why would any sane person subject themselves to this. The answer is simple, to be spiritually cleansed.

Obviously there are guidelines, for example children, the elderly, the sick and those who are travelling are exempt. So are women who are nursing and/or pregnant. But for the rest of us able bodied, it provides the perfect opportunity to evaluate the priorities of life.
